Artist’s Statement:
Glenn’s exhibition, his second, will include work he has done over the past two years. He began painting in Oak Park, Illinois, where he trained under Frank Schaben. Glenn also studied under Nancy Wong in Oak Park, he lived in Oak Park for year before returning to the Des Moines area.
Glenn has had a long career as Vice President and Director of Research at The Iowa Poll of the The Des Moines Register. He retired after 40 years and recently started painting. Glenn has been studying art the past year and half under Greg Allen Fuqua as well as other instructors at the Des Moines Art Center. Greg Allan Fuqua says: “All of Glenn’s paintings enjoy success and new understanding through changing their orientation.”
Glenn’s art draws on his experience as a newspaper researcher and his rich life around the world, including 10 years as a mountain climber, while in his 30s and a member of the Iowa Mountaineer Club at the University of Iowa. He has climbed mountains in Colorado, Canada, Austria, Switzerland and France.
Glenn’s paintings reflect his interest in bright mixed colors and intense texture. His interest in art was strongly influenced by a long personal association with Clark Hulings, a western and European artist living in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Glenn spent many hours with Clark and his wife Mary in their home exchanging ideas on art and politics.
